Open Gym
We’ve added open gym times based on your request. We’d like to give you the opportunity to do extra work on top of the daily WODs. There are now 7 open gym time slots throughout the week, and we are considering adding more in the future should these be a success. There will be a coach on duty, who won’t be there to coach you directly, but will be available for help or questions should you need them.
*The Competition Class*
We’ve added this class because we have a growing number of members looking to compete. The classes are absolutely sufficient for preparing you for a local competition, or for the open, we just wanted add something that catered to those with slightly more advanced skill and capacity. There are prerequisites to this class, and it will overall be more demanding than a standard hour of programming. If you do not meet the requirements, not to worry, our open gym times will give you the opportunity to acquire any specific skills you might need before joining the comp training session.
The session will be coached by Renee! There prerequisites for the class are as follows:
Able to do approx. 90% of classes Rx
Able to perform “Fran” Rx
Proficient with all weightlifting movements: Snatch (power + Full), Clean (power + Full), Clean and Jerk
Able to perform at least 3-4 Rx unbroken Handstand push ups (kipping or strict)
Come with a:
Competitive Mindset
Competitive Objective
And,
Expect constructive feedback
Class Expectations and Etiquette:
So there’s been a lot of talk since our post earlier this week in regards to what “Class Expectations and Etiquette” might mean. It’s not nearly as daunting as you might think, but it is something we needed to address. There are two main points:
1. Show up (on time)
2. Do the WOD.
1. Showing up on time means just that. Show up either on time or early for your class. We have committed to make sure that moving forward, we as coaches will be there 10 minutes before the start of a class, which gives plenty of time to change or do a pre warm up.
Your coach will cue the start of the class. If you are early you are welcome to warm up and mobilize, but be ready to start the day’s warm up when the class begins. If you are late, your warm up is up to the coach’s discretion, and will most likely mean warming up on the assault bike, or running. None of this is at all meant to be a punishment, its just that jumping half way into a warm up tends to break the flow of a class, so in case you are late, you’ll know what to expect.
The 6:30pm time slot (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) will be the only exception to this. It will officially be an open gym time, but there will be a coach on duty (Herb/Renee/Pete) to lead you through the Daily WOD if you like. The 630pm class is very quiet, but there are a couple of our members who attend primarily those classes, so we wanted to keep that option there for them.
That covers just about everything! We hope you guys are excited about the changes we’ve decided to make. Our goal as always it only to serve you better. We are open to hearing more of your feedback on how we can improve in the future, and strengthen our community further.
